The ongoing drought in Isiolo County

  Several families in Isiolo County have been negatively impacted by the current drought, yet roughly 900 households in Isiolo Central can grin. This is because of a project that the County Government of Isiolo, in collaboration with the Northern Rangeland Trust (Leparua Conservancy), is supporting through the use of carbon credits.  To preserve the environment, increase accessibility in local communities, protect rangelands, and reduce soil erosion, the households from three clusters—Kampi Turkana-Elsa, Leparua, and Kilimani—participate in this initiative. During the first phase, a representative from each household will be paid Ksh. 600 per day for two days to carry out some of the aforementioned tasks, according to John Legei, vice chairman of the Leparua Conservancy. Isiolo County implements Sustainable Management and Access to Water & Sanitation in the ASALS programme(SWASAP).

  Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan today signed an MOU for the execution of Sustainable Management and Access to Water & Sanitation under the ASALS program with the Water Sector Trust Fund, chaired by Chairperson Mr. Bill Lay and Ag CEO Mr. Willis Ombai (SWASAP). Kes 150 million was given to Isiolo for water developments in the Merti and Garbatulla Subcounties. In 3,000 homes and 90 villages in Isiolo County, the SWASAP initiative seeks to promote community resilience and adaptation to climate change. Isiolo County will contribute $13.5 million to the projects' completion.  According to Guyo, the project will include the following: drilling a borehole at Bulesa, piping to Biliqo using HDPE pipes, installing 240 home water connections, two water troughs, improving sanitation, and constructing a 50,000 m3 water pan. 2. Isiolo County government funds youth who want to learn technical skills

  The Isiolo county government intends to establish more polytechnics at the ward level in order to provide youngsters with the technical training they need to participate in the nation's growth in accordance with Vision 2030.  According to Dr. James Lowasa, Deputy Governor of Isiolo, more local youth, both skilled and unskilled, will be employed by development projects like the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor and Oil Refinery.  The DG stated that Isiolo is better suited for persons with abilities that might benefit them by earning decent money and raising living conditions while addressing to delegations from the Ministry of the East African Community led by Principal Secretary Dr. Kevit Desai.
