                         WHAT IS WPC?

 FORMATION 

WPC is essentially the ward planning committee. The Isiolo County Government Climate Change Fund Act of 2018 marked the beginning of the committee's formation in 2018. The WPC is made up of 11 members who represent various ward locations, sublocations, and villages while preserving the required percentages of youth, women, and people with disabilities.


 FUNCTIONS

The act states that WPC's primary responsibilities include administering, organising, and promoting climate and climate change-related topics. However, the county administration later accepted it to manage essentially all matters pertaining to ward development. It includes: - supervising and directing all ward-level developments.
      - gathering, analysing, and prioritising data on the needs of the ward's residents.
      - creating a five-year plan (called a ward development plan) that outlines all of its residents' requirements.
      - Connecting the strategy to the CIDP, ADP, national government programmes, and any other partner initiatives (NGOs, VSOs) operating in the ward.
   - Resource mobilize for the ward through proposal writing.
 Basically WPC links the people with GVTs and partners making it the top most structure at the ward level. Important to note is that, its election takes place after every 3yrs to give members of community opportunity to make their choice on what affects them.

The ongoing drought in Isiolo County

  Several families in Isiolo County have been negatively impacted by the current drought, yet roughly 900 households in Isiolo Central can grin. This is because of a project that the County Government of Isiolo, in collaboration with the Northern Rangeland Trust (Leparua Conservancy), is supporting through the use of carbon credits.  To preserve the environment, increase accessibility in local communities, protect rangelands, and reduce soil erosion, the households from three clusters—Kampi Turkana-Elsa, Leparua, and Kilimani—participate in this initiative. During the first phase, a representative from each household will be paid Ksh. 600 per day for two days to carry out some of the aforementioned tasks, according to John Legei, vice chairman of the Leparua Conservancy. Isiolo County government funds youth who want to learn technical skills

  The Isiolo county government intends to establish more polytechnics at the ward level in order to provide youngsters with the technical training they need to participate in the nation's growth in accordance with Vision 2030.  According to Dr. James Lowasa, Deputy Governor of Isiolo, more local youth, both skilled and unskilled, will be employed by development projects like the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor and Oil Refinery.  The DG stated that Isiolo is better suited for persons with abilities that might benefit them by earning decent money and raising living conditions while addressing to delegations from the Ministry of the East African Community led by Principal Secretary Dr. Kevit Desai.
